What's Next at Mark Reed?

CODE STROKE PROTOCOL

Mark Reed Hospital has been working with physicians and staff from Providence St. Peter Hospital over the last several months to ensure that patients who present stroke symptoms to Mark Reed Hospital will receive state-of-the-art care.

code3Executives and staff at Mark Reed have been consulting with neurologists at St. Peter Hospital who implemented the same Code Stroke Protocol at their facility. Mark Reed is using St. Peter Hospital’s model for implementation here in East Grays Harbor. Mason General Hospital is also among the list of area facilities that has already implemented the protocol.

The most important thing to remember is: TIME EQUALS BRAIN. It is essential that patients get to the hospital as quickly as possible so they can be treated in a timely manner. Timely treatment is essential to save brain function. Patients in Elma or McCleary and surrounding areas who are suffering from a stroke and seek care at Mark Reed will have a better chance of survival and a better chance of an overall rehabilitation outcome by coming to Mark Reed’s emergency department first to be treated and stabilized for transport, instead of trying to make it to a larger facility out of the area.

code2Mark Reed is currently in the process of rehearsing the Code Stroke Protocol, which is already in place, by participating in drills to ensure that all patient care staff members are practiced and trained in the protocol and ready to respond.

Mark Reed continues to be in the forefront when it comes to healthcare. We recently were selected as a pilot site for the Washington State Medical Home Project and we have received grant monies to incorporate an Electronic Medical Records System into our facility.

Certificate from the Obama Administration

Both EMR and Medical Home are two new concepts for the revolution of healthcare. You may have heard President Obama’s administration discuss both concepts as they work on their healthcare restructure plan. Mark Reed was the first hospital in Washington State to receive federal stimulus money, via the USDA for our EMR project. The picture above shows our certificate from the Obama Administraiton for the grant monies received.
